Rising demand from North America and the United Kingdom, steady interest from Asian markets, heightened market awareness, and improved processing to accommodate the growing demand are key forecasts for Portugal’s Golden Visa Program in 2025.
According to Schengen.News, Portugal’s Residency by Investment Scheme grants residency to nationals from non-EU countries in return for financial investments made in the country.
The most popular choice in Portugal’s Golden Visa Program was real estate investment. However, this option was discontinued in October 2023 to better address the housing crisis.
Nevertheless, other options within the Golden Visa program continue to draw a significant number of foreigners.
Imi Daily reports that investors from North America and the UK are particularly drawn to the investment fund option.
In addition to fund investments, other popular options include donations for the arts or cultural heritage, creating ten jobs, and scientific research.
Data from the Association of Americans Resident Overseas in November 2024 showed that as of November 2023, over 5.4 million Americans were living abroad, with many choosing European countries like France, Germany, and Spain.
However, when it comes to securing residency and citizenship in EU countries, Portugal is the top choice, largely due to its Golden Visa Program.
The surge in demand for Portugal’s Residency by Investment Program was influenced by Donald Trump’s election as the President of the US and other social and economic factors.
For Britons, interest in Portugal’s Golden Visa Program remains high, especially following the UK’s exit from the European Union.
There is also increased demand from the Eastern market, particularly China.
Portuguese authorities are working to streamline application processing to handle the ongoing rise in demand for the Golden Visa Program. A report from October 2023 indicated that long waiting times have left many applicants in uncertainty.
The same report revealed that due to extended visa processing times, some applicants regret investing in Portugal for a golden visa. Consequently, Portuguese authorities have intensified efforts to speed up this process.
